The watermark

What is it?

A watermark is a graphic or textual element embedded directly into the paper or added through advanced printing processes. It is designed to be visible under certain conditions, such as when held up to the light or viewed from a specific angle.

Authentication:
The watermark makes it possible to quickly verify a document’s authenticity. Its integration into the paper, or its application using specialised techniques, makes it extremely difficult to reproduce.

Protection against forgery:
Thanks to its intricate details, the watermark is a major obstacle for counterfeiters, as it requires technical expertise and specific equipment to be reproduced faithfully.

Customisation:
Watermarks can be customised to include logos, text or patterns specific to a State or a private company, thereby reinforcing the document’s visual identity and security.
